Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
